Multotec has recently been awarded Level 1 Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) accreditation by the South African Revenue Service (SARS). This recognition aligned with World Customs Organisation (WCO) standards recognises Multotec’s proven track record in customs compliance, financial stability, and operational security. It further cements the company’s reputation as a trusted partner in international trade.
According to Etienne Smit, Group Supply Chain Manager at Multotec, achieving the accreditation shows the company’s operational discipline and commitment to global best practice. “Acquiring Level 1 AEO reflects the high standards we uphold across our operations and supply chains. It is a sign of trust that demonstrates our dedication to conducting business responsibly, securely, and efficiently on a global scale,” he explains.
The AEO programme is a global initiative designed to promote streamlined and efficient international supply chains by recognising companies that demonstrate exceptional standards in trade practices. Level 1 represents the second highest tier within the SARS framework, placing Multotec among a selected group of South African leading enterprises that have met the rigorous requirements of the programme.
To obtain the certification, Multotec had to meet strict criteria in several crucial areas, including legal compliance, financial stability, safety and security, and record-keeping. The process included a formal application and a thorough customs audit, with key employees undergoing competency assessments to demonstrate their knowledge in customs regulations. This in-depth evaluation highlighted Multotec’s ability to maintain strong internal controls, ensure transparency, and uphold high ethical standards in its business practices.
The benefits of this recognition are both practical and strategic. For Multotec’s operations, the accreditation allows for faster customs clearance, fewer border delays, and streamlined import and export processes. From a customer and stakeholder perspective, it provides assurance that Multotec’s global trade practices are not only secure but also aligned with internationally recognised standards. This strengthens the company’s relationship with customs authorities and clients worldwide and reinforces its reputation as a reliable trade partner with a clear competitive advantage in international markets.
Beyond operational efficiency, the certification reflects Multotec’s broader commitment to responsible business practices. The company places equal emphasis on the safety and well-being of its employees, the integrity of its supply chain, and the sustainability of the environment. This milestone is therefore part of a holistic business approach that integrates compliance, operational discipline, and corporate responsibility.
“This achievement is not just about meeting regulatory requirements, it is about setting ourselves apart as a global leader in mineral processing solutions,” concludes Etienne. “The AEO accreditation reinforces Multotec’s long-standing reputation for operational excellence, reliability, and customer trust, paving the way for continued growth and international partnerships.”
