Precision-engineered for performance, designed for local needs: Bearings International (Bi) rolls out robust automotive aftermarket trailer wheel bearing kits

Bearings International (Bi), in partnership with leading global Tier 1 supplier JTEKT (formerly sold under the KOYO brand), is proud to introduce a new aftermarket solution tailored for South Africa’s trailer market: High-performance trailer wheel bearing kits designed for reliability, endurance and ease-of-use.

“Our goal is clear and simple: To keep trailers rolling reliably and safely for our customers, whether they are hauling for business or heading out on an adventure,” states Christian Chipamaunga, General Manager Automotive at Bi.

Each wheel bearing kit is co-branded by Bi and JTEKT (formerly sold as KOYO) and contains JTEKT OEM-approved, premium-quality bearings which are trusted for their performance, reliability and durability by leading vehicle manufacturers worldwide. This new offering brings the same global premium quality standards to the local trailer aftermarket, giving customers an unbeatable combination of price, performance and peace of mind.

Bi has targeted the launch to two high-potential areas in Limpopo – Tzaneen and Phalaborwawhich have been identified for their strategic growth prospects and significant trailer usage among leisure travellers, small transport operators and local commercial hauliers. “We’ve chosen to focus on this key localised region in order to build visibility and provide meaningful support, thus laying the foundation for credibility and trust before we expand further across South Africa,” explains Chipamaunga. “This pilot launch marks the exciting first step in realising our long-term vision for the Bi Automotive Aftermarket unit and is just the beginning of our transformative journey, serving as a springboard for a broader rollout. We will monitor customer feedback and field performance closely, harnessing real-world insights to guide growth. By collecting both qualitative and quantitative data, including real user testimonials and voice-of-the-customer insights from the pilot region, we will be able to build a strong, performance-driven business case and a scalable, model-based regional success, equipped with the right triggers to expand into similar high-demand areas across the country. This framework will allow us to support the local market intimately and adapt and improve our offering, while aligning supply with genuine demand across recreational and commercial trailer segments.”

Each wheel bearing kit is supplied complete for fast, simple and hassle-free installation – perfect for certified workshops and hands-on DIY trailer owners alike. Kit assembly is managed at Bi’s in-house state-of-the-art engineering facility, guaranteeing rigorous quality control and expert supervision from start to finish. “Combined with Bi’s nationwide distribution footprint, we add further value for customers through fast availability, local support and technical expertise,” emphasises Chipamaunga.

Going forward, Bi plans to further extend the offering to include wheel bearing kits for passenger and commercial vehicles, as well as a wider range of JTEKT aftermarket components such as Electronic Power Steering (EPS), CV joints, tie rod ends, and universal joints, all supported by Bi’s strategic, robust logistics and distribution infrastructure.

“Our full confidence in the product’s quality and market fit, supports our long-term vision to scale production rapidly and build strategic partnerships with trailer manufacturers nationwide, offering cost-effective, customised bearing solutions that meet the demands of local industries,” asserts Chipamaunga. “We believe in doing things right, one region at a time. Our goal is not to flood the market but instead to serve the market properly with purpose, precision and integrity, meeting customer needs with real value,” he concludes.
