Aspen Technology unveils Microgrid Management System

Aspen Technology, a global leader in industrial software, has unveiled the AspenTech Microgrid Management System (MMS), a solution designed to help asset-intensive organizations optimize power generation, storage, and load management, improving power reliability and supporting their net-zero goals.

Built on AspenTech’s OSI monarch SCADA platform, this new system is aimed at industries with significant power needs, such as refining, chemicals, mining, and other sectors that manage both conventional and renewable on-site power generation. The solution integrates these power sources with active load management and energy storage.

“AspenTech’s microgrid solution helps reduce energy vulnerability and mitigate business risks by bringing innovation to asset-intensive industries,” said Sally Jacquemin, Vice President of Power and Utilities at AspenTech. “Leveraging decades of electric utility control and automation experience across more than 400 global utilities, the AspenTech Microgrid Management System provides the flexibility and functionality needed to tackle power challenges, allowing heavy energy users to meet operational and net-zero targets.”

Energy Management Now part of AspenTech’s Digital Grid Management suite, the MMS is engineered to help industrial customers overcome energy-related challenges by improving power reliability through real-time management of power generation resources, including renewable energy and storage. It also enhances situational awareness to maximize return on investment and strengthens cybersecurity to protect critical power loads.

The solution features an AI-driven approach capable of forecasting power consumption and renewable energy generation up to 35 days in advance. This allows scheduling and optimization algorithms to enhance the use of power generation resources, while minimizing emissions and electricity costs.

Other standard features of the AspenTech MMS include real-time control, trending, alarming, and reporting; the ability to integrate renewable energy with traditional power generation and battery storage; advanced forecasting and scheduling capabilities; and a user-friendly interface with responsive data historian and restoration capabilities.
