Sandvik Unveils SAM in Africa, Garnering Enthusiastic Reception at Electra Mining Africa Exhibition

The Sandvik Digital Assistant (SAM) has made its debut in Africa, receiving a highly positive response during its showcase at the Electra Mining Africa Exhibition. Industry professionals from across the continent were impressed by SAM’s potential to transform the crushing and screening value chain.

Designed to streamline daily operations, SAM centralizes tools, information, and guidance in a user-friendly platform.

“A Market Ready for Innovation”
“There is no doubt that the local market is ready for SAM, judging from the enthusiastic response we have had from customers,” said Ali Jumaa, Digital Product Manager for Sandvik Rock Processing.

According to Jumaa, SAM empowers stakeholders across mining operations—operators, technicians, purchasing teams, and managers—to adopt smarter workflows.

A Proactive Digital Solution
SAM has been tailored to support customers throughout their journey with Sandvik’s original equipment. Maintenance and site managers, for instance, can track equipment performance in real time via laptops, tablets, or smartphones.

“The purchasing department can easily access the SAM webshop to identify part numbers, create shopping lists, and place orders seamlessly,” added Jumaa.

Broad Applications for Enhanced Efficiency
SAM is more than a tool for customers. Service technicians can access critical resources like documentation and manuals, while operators benefit from enhanced operational uptime and availability.

Through sensor-driven cloud data, SAM also provides detailed insights into equipment performance. This includes information such as operational and idle times for crushers, enabling users to optimize processes and reduce downtime.

Intuitive Design and Predictive Maintenance
SAM’s intuitive interface simplifies its use, eliminating the need for extensive training. Customers are guided through data-driven analysis to fine-tune operations, develop predictive maintenance strategies, and prevent unplanned stoppages.

“The platform delivers real-time operational insights supported by actionable recommendations, ensuring optimal performance and maintenance strategies,” Jumaa noted.
