Infineon announces the CIPOS™ Maxi Intelligent Power Module (IPM) series for industrial motor drives up to 4 kW

Infineon Technologies has expanded its 7th generation TRENCHSTOP™ IGBT7 product family to include the CIPOS™ Maxi Intelligent Power Module (IPM) series for low-power motor drives. The new IM12BxxxC1 series utilizes the advanced TRENCHSTOP IGBT7 1,200 V and quick diode EmCon 7 technology.

This product’s remarkable control and performance are attributed to its newest micro-pattern trench design. Consequently, there is a substantial decrease in losses, an improvement in efficiency, and an increase in power density. The portfolio consists of three new devices with power ratings ranging from 10 A to 20 A, capable of delivering up to 4.0 kW. These products are named IM12B10CC1, IM12B15CC1, and IM12B20EC1.

The IM12BxxxC1 line comes in a DIP 36x23D package. The integration of diverse power and control components enhances reliability, optimizes PCB space, and reduces system costs. With the maximum power density and best performance in its class, this package is the smallest available for 1,200 V IPMs. The IM12BxxxC1 series is specifically designed for low-power drives in many applications, including motors, pumps, fans, heat pumps, and outdoor fans used in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.

The new IPM series has a dual-in-line molded housing that is isolated, ensuring exceptional thermal performance and electrical isolation. Additionally, it fulfills the electromagnetic interference (EMI) and overload protection criteria of intricate designs. Furthermore, the IPM is furnished with a separate temperature thermistor that has obtained UL certification, in addition to its protective characteristics.

The CIPOS™ Maxi integrates a durable 6-channel SOI gate driver that includes an integrated dead time feature to safeguard against harm caused by transients. The device includes under-voltage lockout functionality for all channels and a shutdown mechanism for over-current conditions. This IPM offers significant design freedom for diverse purposes due to its multi-function pin. The device allows easy control by providing access to the low-side emitter pins for monitoring all phase currents.
